ABOUT THE STUDENTS' UNION AT HARPER ADAMS


Harper Adams Students' Union is a registered charity whose student members democratically lead the organisation, supported by a team of permanent staff who are responsible for the operation and management of the students' union. The student members are represented at all levels of decision making within the union and the university, supported by the union’s staff team. With two-full time Student Officers, a team of permanent staff and the involvement of student volunteers the Union is at the heart of activity on campus. We deliver a range of services and support for members, from independent academic advice to supporting Course Reps to enhance their course, to promote the employability and development of students through our clubs and societies. The Union shop which sells a range of products, including ethically sourced University branding clothing and merchandise. 

As an organisation we are continually striving to develop as an organisation we recently became a Living Wage paying students' union from September 2019, and we are committed to paying all our staff the living wage set by The Living Wage Foundation, rising annually in line with the real cost of living in the UK.

External Trustee (2x appointed positions)

Grade: Voluntary
Start Date: Immediate

Appointment Duration: 4 years per term, to a maximum of two-terms
Hours: Part-Time

Role Overview

HASU are looking for two externally appointed professionals to join our Trustee Board as External Trustee. We are looking for individuals who are committed to the role of the Students’ Union at Harper Adams Students' Union, and support the values of student leadership, democracy, non for profit and an inclusive approach. Ideally, we are seeking to appoint individuals who will add a mix of skills and who bring diversity to our Trustee Board. 

We hope to strengthen the range of competencies across the Trustee Board in order to support our student leaders. We would be particularly interested to hear from individuals with experience of financial management/audit and/or commercial services management, Charity and Company directorship, Human Resources, strategic and change management. However, these are not essential. 

What we are expecting

HASU is currently working in partnership with the Harper Adams University following a period of change and is currently looking into the development of its new strategic plan for 2020 and beyond. 

Attendance to Meetings

The Trustee Board will meet between four and six times a year, with potential involvement with sub-committees. Outside of board meetings, there may be occasions when the Officer Trustees will turn to you for your experience and knowledge.

The post of External Trustee is appointed for a period of four years, which can be extended for a second term. This role is not remunerated; however reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

SU BAR STAFF

DETAILS

Working with the team to ensure the smooth running of the bar within our SU Bar/ Welly, deliver the highest customer service standard. Working within our venue is no ordinary part-time job. As a member of the team, you will be expected to be an ambassador for the Students’ Union. We aim to make life better for students at Harper Adams and, because last academic year we had over 5,000 people visit our venue, you are the face of Harper Adams Students’ Union at our events.
