NTCA Clinical Skills Workshop
Join the Harper & Keele Zoological Society for an interactive NTCA Clinical Skills Workshop, exploring practical clinical skills and Emergency & Critical Care (ECC) in non-traditional companion animals (NTCAs) and exotics.
This workshop is open to everyone! You do not need to be a veterinary student or have a veterinary background to attend. Whether you already have an interest in exotic species, want to learn more about NTCA care, or simply fancy trying something new, all are welcome.
The workshop will begin with an introduction to Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) in NTCAs and exotics, followed by four practical stations:
🩺 Station 1 – Approach to a Fish Consultation
Explore the key considerations when approaching and assessing a fish patient. Put everything you've learnt into practice with mock 1 to 1 consults with the opportunity for feedback.
🩹 Station 2 – How to Bandage Bird Feet
Learn practical techniques for bandaging avian feet and gain hands-on experience with appropriate methods and materials.
🏥 Station 3 – Hospitalising NTCAs
Learn the general principles of hospitalising non-traditional companion animals and the key considerations for their care. Get hands on and build your own hospitalisation set ups for each of the NTCA species.
💉 Station 4 – IV & IO Catheter Placement
Have the opportunity to learn and practice intravenous (IV) and intraosseous (IO) catheter placement using rabbit cadavers.
The afternoon will finish with a Q&A session, giving you the chance to ask questions and discuss anything covered during the workshop.
🎟️ Tickets
Tickets must be purchased in advance to attend.
Whether you're a seasoned exotic animal enthusiast, a zoology student, a veterinary student, or simply curious to learn something new, come along and get hands-on with the fascinating world of NTCAs and exotic animal medicine!🐠🐘
