WORK WITH US
With a rich history spanning 120 years, Harper Adams Students’ Union is the primary organisation representing the views of over 3,500 students to the institution and beyond.
With two full-time Student Officers, a team of permanent staff and the involvement of student volunteers and student staff, the Union is at the heart of activity on campus. We deliver a range of services and support for members, from supporting Course Representatives to enhance their course, to promoting the employability and development of students through our student activities. The Union also runs a shop nightclub, bar/pub and a shop that sells a range of products, including University course branding clothing and merchandise.
As an organisation we are continually striving to develop as an organisation. The people that work for HASU don’t just do it for a paycheque. No, they’re passionate about being part of something big, part of an organisation that creates change on campus, delivering events and campaigns on a weekly basis.
Students are at the heart of our ambitious strategy with our aims focused on improving their education, making campus fun, looking after their wellbeing, making them more employable, and ultimately empowering them to change the world around them.

Harper Adams Students’ Union is a £1.2m turnover independent charity that works to support the students of Harper Adams University. We empower students, represent their voice and deliver a range of engaging sports clubs, societies and social events.
We have 7 staff, 2 sabbatical officers and a team of tireless student staff & volunteers who support our work. Unlike most students’ unions, we generate almost all of our own income from our commercial services, events, clubs and societies. The flipside to our lean team and commercial achievements is the need to further enhance the power of student voice and develop the range of supportive services that many other students’ unions provide to their students. It’s an exciting time at HASU, with a broadly new team, new leadership at the university, the finishing touches being added to our strategic plan and a sense of real change and excitement on campus.
You will have the opportunity to help us deliver our new strategy, which will see us enhance our services and offer to students. You’ll provide us with expertise to make us more resilliant and ensure we’re ambitious and reach our targets.
We are open-minded about the background you might have although we would especially welcome people who have experience in charities, governance or expertise in EDI.
We are open to you being a first-time Trustee if you are excited by our mission.
The pandemic has seen us become more open to technology and we’ve committed to hosting meetings digitally as well as on campus so we’d welcome applications from people anywhere in the UK.
Our board is not as diverse and representative as our student population is likely to be in future years, and we want to change this, so welcome applications from candidates from underrepresented groups.
If you are inspired by the role and would like an informal discussion please get in touch by contacting the Union Director Liam Davis on LDavis@Harper-Adams.ac.uk
Please submit a CV and a cover letter outlining any experience you feel you can bring to our Board as well as what motivates you to volunteer with us here at Harper Adams. We would request that cover letters are no longer than 2 pages. Applications should be directed to the Union Director on the email address above
Shortlisting and interviews will be conducted by the Deputy Chair of the Board and the Students’ Union President
Closing date for applications is: 22nd May 2023
