The Harper Adams Equestrian Club is open to students from every background, from those having never ridden before to those who own and compete their own horses. Lessons are tailored to suit all riding abilities and for those more experienced riders there is the option to try out for a place on one of our teams. We currently have three teams that compete in BUCS competitions throughout the year.
We train at Upper Hattons Stables which is a 30-45 minute drive from campus. If you don’t drive, don’t worry! We always make sure that there is a driver in each group so that everyone can attend. Our instructors, Lauren and Jayne, are very approachable, experienced and full of enthusiasm.
Outside of lessons we hope to introduce trips throughout the year to popular events such as Badminton, Cheltenham Races and many more!
The exec team for this year is as follows
Captain- Milly Kipling
Vice captain - Alimay Campbell
Secretary - Josephine Jackson
Treasurer - Rosie-Mae Rodgers
BUCS Captain - Olivia Hartley
Feel free to contact any of us through Facebook or our Instagram account (@hau_equestrian) if you have any questions about the club!
Times/ days of training.
Training for teams usually takes place on Monday evenings, however, this will alter each year depending on what suits the members on the teams.
Each team has four competitions as part of their mini-league. Three are held away at the other universities in the league and one is held at the stables where we train. Following this, the team with the most points in each mini-league will qualify to compete at Regionals and the highest two individuals not in the qualifying team will also qualify.
Normal lessons take place on Wednesday afternoons. These are available to anyone who is a member of the club. Groups are made according to ability and after a few sessions, these will usually stay the same throughout the year.
As well as lessons, we have socials on Wednesdays. This year we have an option for a social membership which means everyone is welcome whether you want to ride or not, the aim for the socials is all about getting to know like-minded people and enjoying Harper with people with a common interest.
