What does the club do?

The Harper Adams Equestrian Club is open to students from every background, from those having never ridden before to those who own and compete their own horses. Lessons are tailored to suit individuals and for those more experienced there is the option to try out for a place on one of our teams. We currently have three teams that compete in BUCS competitions.

We train at Upper Hattons Stables which is a short 30-45 minute drive from campus. If you don’t drive, don’t worry! We always make sure that there is a driver in each group so that everyone can attend. Our instructors, Lauren and Jayne, are very approachable, experienced and full of enthusiasm.

Outside of lessons we hope to introduce trips throughout the year to popular events such as Badminton, Cheltenham Races and many more! If you have any ideas the please let us know!

Training for teams takes place on Monday evenings currently, however this will alter each year depending on what suits the members on the teams.

Each team has four competitions as part of their mini-league. Three are held away at the other universities in the league and one is held at the stables where we train. Following this the team with the most points in each mini-league will qualify to compete at Regionals and the highest two individuals not in the qualifying team will also qualify. This year, our second team qualified for regionals, and an individual from first team qualified for nationals.

Normal lessons take place on Wednesday afternoons. These are available to anyone who is a member of the club. Groups are made according to ability and after a few sessions these will usually stay the same throughout the year.

As well as lessons, we have socials on Wednesdays. Everyone is welcome whether you drink or not, it’s all about getting to know like-minded people and enjoying Harper with people with a common interest.
