Welcome to the Harper Adams Tug of War Club, “roping” people in since 2018! We are a relatively new club with around 15 current members with 5 away on placement.
We are an inclusive club who welcomes anyone of any ability and level of experience. In the club, we have members who have traveled all over the country competing within young farmers then proceeding onto national and international level competitions.
As of yet, we don’t compete competitively against other teams or universities as we are a new club, but we aim to compete in the coming year when membership numbers increase.
As a farming university, we feel our presence in the university is crucial and as many of its university students are members of Young Farmers, it gives members an opportunity to train whilst being away from their own team as well as making friends throughout the university.
Megan Phillips is our chairwoman who has 4 years of pulling experience under her belt! She is the first point of contact in the society, so if you have any queries or questions, don’t hesitate to contact her. She is coaches as well as the face of the club so feel free to ask her for help you perfect your pulling technique.
Tom Ward is our secretary who organises any meetings we may need and provides our treasurers with basic knowledge of membership and any forms of income.
Aaron Williams is our social exec who runs our socials which take place every Monday night at The Honeysuckle in Newport. Socials are an important part of our society as it gives our members a chance to meet people and join in with the traditional Harper socials!
Our treasurer is Ben Cooke who is in charge of all the money! He makes sure the club has enough funds to function as well as joining in with the club activities and training.
Luke Mills is our charities exec so when we get involved with events and raise money he helps to organise handing over cheques and where the money is donated to. Due to the recent increase in on-farm deaths and suicides, we hope to get involved with donating money to the Yellow Wellies Farm Safety Foundation and some rural mental health charities.
TRAINING HAPPEN EVERY THURSDAY AT 7:30PM IN THE SOIL HALL
