RAG Manifesto
Fellow Harper students, my name is Tom York and this is my manifesto that will hopefully encourage you to vote for me as your 2024/25 RAG exec rep. RAG, what on earth does that mean? For those of you asking that question, let me explain.
RAG stands for, Raising and Giving. In simple terms, the RAG exec is tasked with organising events that will aim to raise money for chosen charities over the year. How is this done? Well this is where it starts to benefit you, the students. Over the course of the year my aim will be to organise and run a successful ‘RAG week’ held in the second term of this academic year.
A little backstory to me; during my second year at Harper I assisted with the RAG week, which was a huge success. We brought back the famous ‘take me out’ night, which sold out within hours and involved a packed SU watching some singletons try and find love. I also introduced the sports day, which again, was a huge success. Overall, we managed to raise £4,000 for the chosen charities, my goal this year is to beat that!
Most recently, I went on my own fundraising journey, where I completed an Ironman endurance event to raise money for The Farming Community Network. Over 6 months, I managed to raise £8,000, which I was immensely proud of. This fundraising journey required me to learn the necessary skills to raise money through a fundraising campaign, and it’s something I hope to bring to this years RAG week.
So… how am I going to ensure that this year’s RAG week is a tremendous success? Part of it will come from me, but most of it will come from you! I want to utilise students at Harper Adams to hear what you want, and try and make that a reality. I have already started making plans for the week, and I can confidently say that if you vote for me, it will be a week that you will remember for the duration of your time here, and beyond.
I encourage you to vote for me as your 24/25 RAG exec, that way you will ensure that when the week comes, you will be able to experience some of the earlier events that were held, and maybe some more… Get voting!
