Call for astronomy enthusiasts!
• Are you a Harper Adams University student?
• Do you have an interest in astronomy?
• Do you want to know more about the solar system, the universe and how to recognise constellations in the night sky?
We are kick-starting the 1st Astronomical Society for Harper Adams students in February 2023!
What to expect: learn about basic principles of astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology; learn to recognise constellations and planets in the sky; have questions like "why is the day longer during summer? how old is the universe? why do eclipses occur?" answered (ok, at least we'll try our best, we're all just amateurs!).
You do NOT need to know anything about astronomy to join; the purpose of the society is to learn from each other and explore tools for learning more about the cosmos we live in!
During our meetings (more details to come soon) we will have the opportunity to have in-person guided observations of the night sky (if the weather allows), discuss how astronomical phenomena influence our everyday lives, debunk astrology, and watch films to trigger thinking about large-scale events in our universe.
Depending on the interests of the group, we can also organise quiz nights, visits in nearby observatories and other group activities!
Stay in tune for more information.
