Agric Block Fixture Weekend

The Lions

The annual Agric Block Fixture went ahead on 4-6th Novemeber. Friday night saw the arrival of students from Newcastle, Nottingham and Reading. Even though the weather was awful and most of Edgmond was flooded, we had a fantastic turnout of rowdy Agrics for, what many would say is the best weekend of the year. The order of events were as follows;

Friday Evening: Arrival of beings from other educational institutes and the lighting of the bonfire. Yet again the weather did not deter the Harper spirit and there was a fantastic display of fireworks and lasers which was followed by a terrific pre-lash in the main bar.

Saturday Daytime: Saw the Inter-University Hockey, Netball, Football, Shooting and Rugby competitions. We are extremely pleased to say (and rather smug about the fact) that Harper dominated every competition; with our lions and lioness teams  also doing very well. As well as being victorious, the whole day was fantastic, but the pictures are the only way to do this day justice. Some wined and dined in their very own member’s marquee (a make-shift gazebo in reality) with roast beef and plenty of port to keep us warm or lounged on sofas. Harper lions put on a spectacular display of rugby against the Harper 2nd team. The lions started the match with a performance of their very own haka, however an unexpected response from the Harper 2nds was received and included them pulling a ‘moonie’ whilst slapping their bum cheeks! Half time entertainment was provided by naked jousters and the world’s human sheepdog trials. We also had a guest appearance from Farmers Guardian’s Richard Lewis; AKA Plough On!

Saturday (Evening): The Bavarian Stompers entertained the contingent of agric students from across the land with their Oompa band. Dancing commenced on tables and steins of beer were on tap. This was followed by yet another night in the bar to bathe in the glory of the days victories.
