Community Officer Update - Learning, Teaching and Student Experience Committee Update

Raising Student Concerns To The University

On Wednesday, 15 October 2025, I attended my first Learning, Teaching and Student Experience Committee meeting since returning from my placement year.

During this meeting, I raised a handful of key points on behalf of the student body.

These included:

• Timetabling considerations: specifically, the potential for a condensed number of teaching days and a reduction in widely scattered sessions.

• Student finance and enrolment: particularly payment delays and the impact these issues have on students.

• Support for returning students: focusing on the transition from student identity toward professional and the recognition of that shift, appropriate support and dealing with the increased quantity of self-directed study.

• The need to enhance student self-advocacy skills as an integral component of personal and professional development.

• The value of interactive lectures, including approaches that maintain high-quality lecture recordings while encouraging engagement.

• The importance of breaking up extended teaching blocks to improve concentration and learning outcomes.

The university expressed its appreciation for the insight and acknowledged the concerns. I hope further clarity will emerge on how these matters will be approached to shape future improvements to the student experience. A progression update will ideally be communicated in the next meeting scheduled for December.
