Another RAG year has come to an end with more money being donated to three fantastic causes. Since September the RAG team have been working tirelessly to raise money for their chosen charities with this year’s charities being the George Crawford Legacy Trust, The Farm Safety Foundation and The Newport Saturday Club.
Kicking off in September the team sold halls tops to first year students arriving on campus. Different colours represented different halls of residence on campus which helped to provide a sense of unity and belonging. Throughout the first term the RAG team held a successful RAG Week where a series of events ranging from a pub quiz to pub golf were held, all raising funds for our three charities.
As the year progressed, in February the annual RAG Dinner was held in the SU. This included an auction raising £1,600 along with music and a three-course meal. Unfortunately, the RAG team’s efforts were put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, putting an early stop to their fundraising activities.
However, the team still managed to raise a fantastic £4,179.75 for their charities during their time. A huge well done and thank you must go to Charlotte Morris (RAG Chair), Beth Chadwick (RAG Secretary) and Georgie Packer-Arthy (RAG Treasurer) for all of their hard work and determination over the past year.
We have been delighted to hear from the three charities receiving donations:
‘We are bowled over by the generosity and thoughtfulness from your student union body that included our son’s charity in the proceeds you all raised.’ – Mary Crawford, George Crawford Legacy Trust.
‘We would like to say a big thank you to our lovely friends at Harper Adams SU for their amazing efforts fundraising for us again this past year. By raising money for the Farm Safety Foundation, they are helping us to raise awareness of farm safety and mental health among young farmers and reduce the number of avoidable deaths on our farms. Thank you for caring about the mental and physical health of our farmers, and a big thank you to Harper Adams for their support’ – Stephanie Berkeley, Manager, Farm Safety Foundation.
‘What a lovely surprise for our Club! Our members would like to say a big thank you to all the students who have raised such a fantastic amount of money for us.’ – Lyn Deakin, Newport Saturday Club.
Beth (RAG Secretary) said ‘A big thank you must go to everyone who has supported RAG over the year and we are grateful for every donation or ticket bought which has helped to contribute to our fantastic total’
HASU would again like to say a huge thank you to this year's RAG team but also every student who has contributed to RAG over the past year and helped to raise a fantastic amount of money for three fantastic charities.
