The Motorsports Club gave a fantastic performance competing and marshalling at the Scottish Borders Hill Rally last week.

The event featured the famous Tomcat car and was the first time the Tomcat competed in an event since 2009.

Project Tomcat commenced five years ago by previous Harper Adams students and has been worked on by numerous students since then. The Land Rover originally came to Harper as a car frame for the students to work on and since then it has been kitted out with all the relevant parts needed to successfully compete in rallies.

30 students across 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year attended the rally with 20 acting as marshals to help control the event and 10 acting as the service crew to help run the car throughout the day.

Tomcat and both driver and co-driver managed to bag the Duckworth Trophy for being the 1st novice crew to finish.

“We all had a blast competing and marshalling at the Scottish Borders Hill Rally. Tomcat made it through with only a few issues and everyone’s help enabled us to complete all the stages of borders rally!”
