When you picture student life you often think about lectures, assignments, exams and hours in the library. While academics is important most of your memories will be made outside the classroom.
At the start of your university life things can seem pretty overwhelming but that is where clubs and societies come in. Joining a club or society instantly connects you with people who have similar interests and hobbies so instead of walking into a room full of strangers you are walking into a space where every single person already has something in common. Friendships which are formed though clubs and societies will become some of the strongest connections which students make during their time at university whether that is attending socials, travelling to competitions, training, organising events or even just spending time between lectures.
If you are to ask any graduate what they remember most about their time at university and rarely will you hear them mention a lecture, exam or assignment deadline, but instead they will talk about competitions, socials, trips and events which they did with their club or society. These are the stories which become part of your university experience, and these are the stories which you will still be telling years later.
One of the most common things which a final year student will say is that “I wish I had got involved sooner” university life moves incredibly quickly your first year will be nearing and end before it feels like it has even started.
The bottom line is a degree is what brings you to Harper but the people, the experiences, opportunities and the memories are what makes it truly special. So whether you are a fresher looking to meet new people, a second year who is wanting to try something different or a final year student who wants to make the most of their remaining time now Is the perfect time to get involved.
