THE GENDER EXPRESSION FUND

The Gender Expression Fund provides financial support to aid the social transition of transgender students.

The grant is funded through fundraising at events and by students, and applicants can ask for financial support to buy gender-affirming products such as binders and wigs. Unfortunately, due to the fund being limited, we are unable to provide the grant to individuals needing financial aid for their medical transition. This is an avenue that we hope to explore later down the line when the Gender Expression Fund is more established.

I started the development of this fund three years ago in my previous role as LGBTQ+ Executive after attending a conference at the University of Staffordshire in 2022 where Students' Unions from universities across the UK came together to discuss support for LGBTQ+ students. It was brought to our attention here that a similar fund is provided by most other UK universities, and so with the introduction of this fund, we are proud to be a part of the national effort in universities to better support transgender students.
