Welcome to the most exciting student led motorsport club that any university has to offer! At the HAU motorsport club we offer so much more: We offer members the chance to attend rallies, track days and comp safaris as marshals, pit crews and even as drivers and co-drivers.
We hold weekly workshop sessions where we work on the 2 HASU owned cars and we hold relaxed socials at the Sutherland arms in Tibberton (only a 5-minute drive from Harper). Lifts will be available to and from socials! You do not have to have your own vehicle or even be able to drive! No previous mechanical experience is necessary, we’re all in it to learn together. All you need is a ‘can do’ attitude, and a sense of humour.
Our socials are very relaxed, and drinking is not compulsory. All are welcome whether we are your final destination for the night, or you come and see us before hitting the SU for the Wednesday night out.
For those of you in self-catered, the food at the Sutherland is good, and very reasonably priced.
We currently own a 180bhp ex-Volkswagen racing Polo 6N2 that will be used for track days, and autotests, we are always in the workshop looking to make improvements to the car and improve its durability.
In the past the club has focussed mainly on rallying. We love rallying but we plan to offer more track day based events this year as they are much better value for money and offer a more relaxed and inviting atmosphere for less experienced members. It should also be possible to offer passenger rides in the VW Polo for members at track days.
We also own a custom TD5 Land Rover based Tomcat that is now completed. In a previous life it competed in morocco where it rolled during a winch challenge. After this it was kindly donated to us to give it a second life and we cannot wait to take it to some events this year. The Tomcat will be entered in comp safari events, Off-Road Trials and will offer members the chance to try out a more muddy and gritty form of motorsport than tarmac based events.
Go karting trips, as well as trips to watch other events such as banger racing and stock cars, will be offered at least once a term and will be subsidised for members. There will also be opportunities to obtain marshal and scrutineer qualifications and to marshal and scrutineer at events. Most events are always short on Marshal numbers and it’s a great way to support our sport and watch your favourite events for free.
If a career in motorsport is what you desire, this club can be a great way to get involved and make connections in the industry. Due to the connections made at HAU, previous members have gone on to work for M-Sport who run Fords world rally programme.
