The Course Reps brought forward the suggestion that WIFI be improved outside so that students have the option to work out of doors.

The Department Reps asked this question to IT at the Student Experience Group. The IT team informed us that they have replaced existing wifi to increase capacity. The plan is to improve outdoor wifi in time for the nicer weather.

• The IT team gave the following response at the Student Experience group: • IT is exploring expanded outdoor Wi-Fi coverage, prioritising Future Farm, QMH, Aspire, and nearby accommodation blocks. • Internal Wi-Fi will be upgraded to version 6e or 7, supporting multiple devices per user. Approximately 3,500 access points will be replaced in phases. • Both campus internet connections have now been upgraded to 10Gb, improving resilience and performance.

This concern was brought up again in Term 2 Students Experience Group (2026). IT response: "All teaching and admin buildings are covered with Wi-Fi, but outdoor spaces need a large capital investment to cover. Certain areas, such as Future Farm and student communal spaces are being prioritised for this work."
