We are Harper Adams Marrow - A student run branch of Anthony Nolan. Marrow exists in over 55 universities and we sign people up to the bone marrow register.
People with leukaemia, and other blood cancers, sometimes need a bone marrow or stem cell transplant to survive. Only 1/3 of people can find a match in their family - the rest need an unrelated donor. However there are millions of different tissue types, and so it can very hard to find a match. Without a donation of healthy stem cells, the patient will die.
By getting more people on the register, we increase chances of finding a match for someone.
We run clinics throughout the year on campus, signing people up to the bone marrow register.
We are one of the newest Marrow groups in the country. We also aimt to do lots of fundraising too, as it costs £100 to put one person on the register, so we raise as much as we can to fund this.
We also try to raise general awareness of bone marrow and stem cell donation, and stop any myths about it (It's NOT painful!)
Finally, as all good socieites do, we like to have amazing socials, to reward ourselves for all the hard work we do.
By volunteering with us, you can help at clinics and fundraisers, and really make a difference. You need to attend a training session first, so email us as firstname.lastname@example.org to find out when these are.
