About me: I’m from Northumberland so am a fan of all things Viking and Celtic history, castles and long walks on the beach! I study VetMed because I love the variety of species we get to work with, my favourite species is cows because they’re just so cute but dogs come in as a close second. Outside of studies, I do a lot of hosting, cooking and reading! This coming year, I have the privilege of leading the Christian Union here at Harper so if anyone’s interested, all are welcome and we’d love to see you there!
My role as the part-time community officer: I see this role as a way of providing support and advice to students and a mechanism for students to make Harper how they want it to be. This is going to be where you’re spending a lot of time during your degree, my aim is to try and make it home away from home! Bring me any feedback or suggestions that you want to see and myself and the other HASU officers will try our best to make it a reality. I’ll be running a campaign focused on ensuring that all courses (veterinary, postgrad and international placement years) are welcomed with the same ferocity and attention, but more than anything the aim is to create a community where everyone can thrive and enjoy their time.
My advice to new students: My practical advice would be to purchase ear plugs because it gets noisy in accommodation on Wednesday evenings (and most other evenings!) and be friendly with your flatmates as they can become built in friends (don’t worry, it isn’t the end of the world if you don’t get on!) Otherwise, leave your room! Get out and explore the Harper campus and what we have to offer in terms of societies and HASU events- there’s plenty on. Card games are always a good place to start for getting talking to people too!
